Shelter dogs are carefully screened before
entering the program. The things we look for in a F.I.D.O. dog are:
Good or nearly good with cats
Good with other dogs, both on leash and off-leash
Friendly with people and eager to bond
However, evaluating dogs in a shelter environment has its limitations. And dog behavior, not unlike human behavior, is influenced by the environment in which they live. The dogs live in a highly structured environment at Geiger Corrections. Play groups are supervised and training is ongoing throughout the day. We have no way to predict with 100% accuracy how a dog will behave once he/she is living in your home. Training is one of the most important things that can be done to ease the transition you will encounter when adding a new 4-legged family member to your home. We will give the dog a foundation of training and help you understand how to build on that foundation. But, ultimately, it will up to you to use what the dog has learned - use it or lose it!
